Bloating is frequently mentioned alongside nausea, constipation, and reflux, especially in the first few weeks after starting or increasing a dose.
Why it happens
It's part of the same underlying shift as the rest of the GI symptom cluster: slower gastric emptying changes how digestion feels, and for a lot of people that shows up as bloating before it shows up as anything else.
What's reported to help
- Smaller meals, eaten more slowly.
- Giving a new dose level a few weeks before assuming it won't settle — a lot of GI symptoms are worst right after a change and ease with time at a stable dose.
- Noticing patterns with specific foods, since some people find particular things (very fatty meals, carbonated drinks) make it noticeably worse.
When it's more than routine
Bloating that's severe, persistent well beyond a dose change, or painful is worth a real conversation with your prescriber rather than an assumption that it's just part of the process.
